The Balloon & The Giraffe: A Metaphor for Inclusive Engineering

A brilliant, visionary humorist from my home country once drew this simple, profound scene: a man attaching a carrot to a balloon so it floats up perfectly to a giraffe’s natural head height.

Is it funny, or does it capture the absolute essence of what human-centered technology should be? Rather than forcing the user to strain or struggle to adapt to an environment built for others, we should build technology to meet the user exactly where they are—respecting and elevating their natural ability.
